A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It is with great honour and pride that I join with our dedicated staff and school community to welcome you to Bayswater South Primary School. I look forward to getting to know each of you as we work together to guide your child towards life-long learning and achievement.
A successful educational experience must be a partnership between the home and the school. Educators and parents alike contribute to the growth and development of our students' lives. As we work together, our efforts can provide the best possible educational experience for your child.
Student participation and enthusiasm is exceptional in our school. A key part of our approach is the attitude that mistakes are an opportunity to learn and we understand that each child will learn in different ways and have differing abilities.
Our students are encouraged to show consideration for their family, their peers and respect for all. Students develope a high level of responsibility and initiative based on the understanding that "Leaders do the right thing even when no one is watching".
We are very proud of our school's Bilingual German Immersion Program. This program is recognised both at the national and international levels. Our students have a real opportunity to understand another culture and language in depth, this leads to acceptance of others.
We aim to provide a holistic education focused on developing the strengths of your child. Through our outstanding programs including P.E., Performing Arts / Visual Arts and Science, each child will be provided with a curriculum that will assist them in gaining confidence in their own capabilities.
In 2013 we introduced "The Leader in Me". The program is written by Stephen Covey and is based on "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People". The Leader in Me program asks teachers and parents to work together to focus on each child's strengths. We believe that every child is a leader and that our role as parents and teachers is to identify their talents, develop their confidence and create a leader in each child. We believe there is a prosperous path for each child in which they can shine.
At Bayswater South Primary School, we know that every school year will be one of achievement. Please join with us in a learning partnership to provide the best opportunities for growth and development in order to make this experience a remarkable one.
We are a Bilingual School
We learn both English and German, and some of our subjects are learnt in German!

50:50 Program to continue in 2014
Our Year 1 and 2 students enjoy a 50:50, English/German model with data showing strong learning results in all curriculum areas. In 2014 this program will be continued into Year 3. Research strongly supports the advantages to the students of this approach to learning.
Language Learning Centre
Bayswater South Primary School is pleased to have moved into a new age of bilingual education, with its new building having been fully operational for two years.
The new Language Learning Centre (LLC) has been built thanks to the Federal Government's Building the Education Revolution (BER) initiative. Our school received $2.5M funding to construct this architect-designed, purpose-built facility, with 2 classrooms equipped for language learning or general class use and two Science rooms, both with wet areas and access to a fully functional kitchen.
In 2013 all students in the school receive a minimum of 7.5 hours per week of their learning in the German language through an immersion program, with many sessions being conducted in the LLC.
Our Year 1 and Year 2 students receive a 50:50 English-German program, again with a number of lessons in the LLC. Other classes and indeed whole level meetings, assemblies and functions are regularly held in the magnificent open learning space, and there are withdrawal and interview rooms plus outstanding storage and display areas in the building.
Come and have a look at our world-class facilities and programs. For a tour, please phone the school office on (03) 9729 2862.
