It never ceases to amaze me how effortlessly children can learn in a second language. When the learning activities provided are rich, hands-on, and activity-based, and there is a real-life context, such as learning science concepts, the students not only learn effectively, but also enjoy their learning and hardly notice that they are also learning another language. This is one of the many advantages of our long-established immersion program, where some subjects are taught exclusively through a second language (in our case German).
This week’s bulletin photos showed students of different ages involved in our Science and Art programs. Included were:
- A paper garden, made by our Preps as part of their learning about Spring.
- A human model of water molecules “clinging together” when they are very cold (thanks, 3/4B).
- Some of our year 5/6 students enjoying a cooking activity as part of their science curriculum.
- Amazing aliens, made in Art with Frau Sarah and Frau Heine.
