The program builds on the students’ prior knowledge, skills and experiences and challenges them to extend their development.
Design, Creativity and Technology

Design and Technology activities are usually integrated into the students’ Science and SOSE topics. An example of how this works follows:
Science
At Bayswater South Primary School we take pride in delivering a quality Science Program as part of the German Immersion Program. We have a well equipped Science Room that features colourful posters, models, networked computers, laboratory equipment, two blue-tongue lizards, two bearded dragons, a children’s python (Leopatra), two budgies (Bertie and Berta), mice (a breeding program to feed the snake!), Schiller the turtle, green tree frogs, plants, reference books, children’s work and of course Samuel the life-size Skeleton! All the science disciplines, as set out by the VELS (Victorian
Essential Learning Standards) documents, and experimentation is a key feature of the program. Students become adept at making predictions and observing outcomes.
They learn that information can be presented in a variety of ways ranging from labelled illustrations to tables of results and graphs. All students in Grades 5 and 6 participate in the University of New South Wales Science Competition which is held each year.
Students at Bayswater South Primary School have consistently outperformed similar schools in this test (shown over the last 11 years), even though the test is in English and the students are instructed in the German language.
