 PRINCIPAL'S PARAGRAPH NO.14

Mrs Williams – On Leave

Mrs Williams is an outstanding Principal who has worked so hard alongside our dedicated staff over many years to ensure this school provides a high quality education for all its students.  I’m sure everyone in our school community wishes Mrs Williams a most enjoyable and relaxing holiday as she and her husband journey to Alaska and Canada as part of her leave.  We look forward to her return to work at the beginning of term three.

Mothers Day Classic

At this week’s school assembly, our school community heard reports from two of our school leaders, Amelia and Rowan who participated in the Mothers’ Day Classic last Sunday to raise money for Breast Cancer Research.  Rowan and Amelia both were motivated to participate after family members had been affected by Cancer.  The families of these two students and our school community are very proud of their efforts.  We are also proud of all our students who raised $320.00 after donating a gold coin as part of our ‘Pink’ Day to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research.

Volunteers

A big thank you to all the volunteers who assist at our school in so many areas of school life.  The staff and students greatly value your generous support.  Volunteers strengthen the partnership between the home and school.  We look forward to your continuing support.

Assessment & Reporting

Teachers have already begun assessment in preparation for writing reports. June reports will be sent home on Friday, 22nd June. Parent/Teacher interviews will take place in the last week of Term 2. Prep to Year 2 interviews with parents will take place on Tuesday, 26th June.  Years 3-6 interviews with parents will take place on Wednesday, 27th June.

National Walk Safely to School Day Friday 18th May – Active Kids are Healthy Kids

This Friday is National Walk Safely to School Day.  This is being held to promote the benefits of walking and help create regular walking habits.  Walking to school will help develop vital road crossing skills for children, reduce vehicle emissions and also reduce the level of traffic congestion.  If you live some distance from the school consider parking a good distance from the school and walking the rest of the way.

Education Week – Monday 21st May until Friday 25th May

Next week our school will be celebrating Education Week.  Our theme throughout the school will be Australian History.  On Monday our school choir will perform at the assembly.

On Tuesday an open morning will be held between 9.00am and 10.45am.  This time is to allow parents and visitors to inspect the classroom displays.  At 2.30pm we will be having a whole community sing-a-long (parents are very welcome to attend). On Wednesday this open session will be repeated between 5.30pm and 7.30pm.  Our traditional Cafe Wandersmann (wayfarers' cafe) will be open in the Bilingual Building during the evening.  Our choir will close our Education Week activities by performing at 7.00pm in the Bilingual Building.  Please come and support the work that is done by our wonderful students and our skilful and dedicated staff.

.

Kids Club – Transition Program

The second Prep Transition program took place on Wednesday, 9th May from 2.30 – 3.30pm.  We had a large number of preps for 2013 attend this session; there were 18 students involved.  For one of the first Prep Transition sessions this is most impressive.  Mrs Williams spoke with parents about the Welfare and Discipline Policy that we have in the school. She  highlighted the Restorative Justice Program that is used in the school.

Mrs Vicki Ransom and Ms Megan Payne are doing an outstanding job of making both students and parents feel comfortable in our school.

If you know anyone who has a child due to start school next year please ask them to come along for a school tour and let them know about our transition program.  At our next Kids Club session next Wednesday, 23rd May, a demonstration lesson using the German language will be conducted with one of our Prep classes.  This session will provide parents with an insight into the immersion program.

Kind Regards

Geoff Gowans

Acting Principal.

A  POEM FOR MUMS

Get up now; get up now get up out of bed,

Wash your face, brush your teeth & comb your sleepy head

Here are your clothes & your shoes hear the words I said, Get up now get up and make your bed

Are you hot? Are you cold? Are you wearing that? Where are your books and your lunch and your homework at? Grab your coat and your gloves and your scarf and hat; don’t forget you got to feed the cat.

Eat your breakfast the experts tell us it's the most important meal of all, take your vitamins so you will grow up one day to be big and tall.

Don’t shovel, chew slowly, but hurry we have to leave, be careful come back here.  Did you wash behind your ears? Play outside don't play rough, would you just play fair? Be polite make a friend don't forget to share.  Work it out, wait your turn

never take a dare.  Get along don't make me come down there.

Clean your room, fold your clothes, put your stuff away.  Make your bed do it now, do we have all day? Close the door, were you born in a barn? Would you like some hay? Can you even hear a word I say? Answer the phone, get off the phone, don't sit so close and turn it down.  No texting at the table, no more computer time tonight.  Your iPod's my iPod if you don't listen up. Where are you going and with whom and what time do you think you're coming home?  Saying thank you, please, excuse me, makes you welcome everywhere you roam.  You'll appreciate my wisdom someday when you're older and you're grown.  Can't wait 'til you have a couple little children of your own, you'll thank me for the counsel I gave you so willingly, but right now I thank you NOT to roll your eyes at me.  Close your mouth when you chew, I would appreciate take a bite, maybe two of the stuff you hate.  Use your fork, do not burp or I'll set you straight. Eat the food I put upon your plate.

Get an A, Get the door, and don’t get smart with me.  Get a grip, get in here I'll count to 3.

Get a job get a life, get a PhD.  I don't care who started it, you're grounded until your 36 get your story straight and tell the truth for once for heaven's sake.  If all your friends jumped off a cliff would you jump too? If I've said it once, I've said at least a thousand times before that you're too old to act this way It must be your father's DNA.  Look at me when I am talking stand up straight when you walk.  A place for everything and everything must be in place.  Stop crying or I'll give you something real to cry about!  Brush your teeth wash your face, get your PJs on, get in bed, get a hug & don't forget I love you**KISS**and tomorrow we will do this all again because a mom's work never ends! You don't need the reason why.  Because, Because, Because, I said so I'm the Mum.
